Scott Baranoff – Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

Great Prostate Cancer Challenge 2008

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month
For over twenty years the American Urological Association (AUA) Foundation has supported and promoted research, patient and public education and advocacy to improve prevention, detection, treatment and ultimately cure urological diseases. The AUA Foundation funds prostate cancer research, screenings and awareness programs in local communities.

Sadly, approximately 218,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year, one new case every 2.5 minutes; and more than 27,000 will die from the disease.

Based on the overwhelming success of the 2007 inaugural event, the 5K Run/1 Mile Walk to benefit prostate cancer research is back. Last year the event had over 1,200 participants and raised over $125,000.

LVSWR Golf Outing November 1 at Boulder Creek

Recognitions

Birthdays in August and September:
Driggs, Reynolds, Crowe, Anderson, Wells, Publow, Baxter, Harrison and Warden. $25 each

Bruce Pope fined $200 because his daughter-in-law was in the paper. Announcement was made that she is leaving the LVCVA after 8 years to pursue a consulting practice and dedicate more time to Bruce’s grandchild. Also there was a photo in H&D Magazine of Bruce and Beth at an event with free wine (reason Bruce attended).

Randy Capurro was fined $150 because Dee did some Google research and found Randy’s very interesting bio which includes his time in the Coast Guard, Nevada Assembly and Nevada Ethics commission.

Mel Close was also researched on Google and we found out that in the early 1960’s Mel sold property to the Dunes hotel that then became the Dunes Golf Course and is now part of the Miracle mile. For a moment Mel almost had us convinced that it was another guy name Mel Close. Nice try, Mel;-)

Fred Fukumoto was also fined for his past – He participated in the Public Education Foundation, Student Enrichment Grants. Fined $200

Aric Graham was part of Valpo’s 1998 Sweet 16 team and recently honored on the 10 year anniversary. $125 fine.

Scott Baranoff was also recognized.  Scott works with Sunrise and Desert Springs hospitals. He also had a very funny joke, as usual (joke is the usual, funny is usually).
