Denise was very gracious to open her home for the Greenspokes meeting (2nd Greenspoke to host, the first being Wally Emery).  Megan, Josh, Mark, Ken and Denise were all in attendance (Greenspokes must attend 4 such meetings to move onto regular membership).  Others were Tom & Donna Martin, Keith & Sherrie Thomas, Gwen & Fred Fukumoto, Karen & Tom Strawn, Bruce Pope, Doug Beckley (who ran the meeting), Ram Kumar, Aric Graham, Eric Colvin, Adrienne Cox, Melissa Copeland and Mark Rowly’s wife and Ken Walker’s wife Barbara.  Melissa had a guest, Mr. Nemo, President of the New Orleans Rotary Club. Ram Kumar presented a great program, Rotary Leadership, which was well received.  The meeting continued with great fellowship.

Adrienne updated us on the GSE project – The 2009 GSE trip will be an exchange with District 2430 in Turkey. As currently scheduled, our outbound team will travel to Turkey from May 5 – June 8, 2009. The inbound team from Turkey will be visiting District 5300 from April 29 – June 1, 2009. Click Here for more info.

One of LVSWR’s scholarship recipients, Kelsey, thanked the club for their support.

Bruce and Beth Pope presented a Paul Harris Fellow to their eldest grandchild Sarah Altshuler.

Recognitions

All past Presidents received a $10 credit for their assumed attendance at all meetings during their presidential year.

Adrienne, Melissa and Tom were each fined $100 for their alleged misbehaving on the Tuacahn bus. They attempted to rat out others to no avail.

Melissa was also recognized for taken her first flying lesson. The other 5 pilots in the club were urged (by Doug) to pitch in and buy some really expensive airplane with her – no further discussion.

Josh was fined $100 for picking up so many new patients after his Craft Talk. Bill Goff gave an outstanding testimonial of the success he has seen from Josh’s work. Josh is sure to get fined again.

Willie was fined $25 for a downtown gas leak that she knew nothing about but she assured us that it was routine maintenance. Willie may be appealing the fine.

Our speaker chose the winning ticket and it happened to be his – hmmm.

Bill Goff introduced Johnnie Stoker – President and CEO of K2 Energy Solutions, Inc.

K2 is an emerging technology company focused on commercializing a new lithium ion material, lithium iron phosphate, for use in Electric Vehicle, Hybrid Electric Vehicle, Plug-in Hybrid, alternative energy, and energy storage markets.

Stoker has a PhD in Chemical Engineering with over 25 years experience in Batteries, Materials, Catalysts, New Product Development, Sales & Marketing, Engineering Design, Production, R&D, and Executive Management.

He has held various executive, management, and technical positions at Valence Technology, Engelhard Corporation, and Vista Chemical Company.

Recognitions and Fines

Hank Falstad fined $25 for  for giving us too much notice for the next Tuacahn Event- August 14, 2009.

Dayton Blaine fined $100 for missing last week’s meeting and going fishing.

Eric Colvin was fined $50 for damaging his shoulder.

Chris Publow is taking his family on a vacation to Michigian. He was fined $100.

Doug Malan received a $25 credit for getting to the LVSWR web-siste without any assistance.

Melissa Copeland went to Louisana and gave the president golf balls as a gift. She received a $25 credit, then a $25 fine.

Melissa did end up with a $25 credit after all  for reciting The Four Way Test correctly!

We were pleased to have Lew Hill, the Assistant Basketball Coach at UNLV, as the guest speaker.  Although it was his first wedding anniversary, he still gave LVSWR members a chance to ask questions about the team, recruitment, gave us a typical day as a UNLV basketball player and much more. Fines

We tried out  the new “Tattle Tale Mondays” and found out a lot of juice!

Doug Beckley  fined $2000.00 for giving out all of those credits at last week’s meeting.

Karen Strawn earned $25.00 credit when she told on herself – she just returned from vacation in Alaska.

Tom Martin earned $25.00 credit when he told on Bruce Pope for going to Michigan for a family reunion.

Bruce Pope told that Keith’s wife and kids went camping without him and earned a $25.00 credit.

Keith Thomas set the record straight about the camping trip then earned $25.00 credit for telling about how great Doug Warden’s bank is doing despite the times.

Doug Warden told on Jack for no good reason and earned a $25.00 credit.

Jack Woodcock took complete responsibility for the housing crisis then told on Mark Rowley for a new project he is working on and earned a $25.00 credit.

Mark Rowley told us all about his new green housing development and could tell on no one so he received a $100.00 fine.

Bryan Dziedziak received a $50.00 fine for leaving the Tuachan play early but Brian mentioned that he saw DeWitt in the parking lot too, so Dee fined himself $50.00 also.

Richard Bowler, Randy Capurro, Hank Falstad, Vern Ratzlaff, and Howdy Wells received a $10.00 fine for not wearing the Rotary pin.

Speaker

Glen Goldie with Capstone Christian was the speaker at this week’s meeting. He is the Executive Director of what will soon become one of the premier Christian schools in America. The goal is to bring comprehensive excellence in education with a firm foundation in Christian values.  He estimates the school to open in 2010 with grades 6-9, and move up one grade level per year after that.
